Driving home from work the other day...

Post  christoph on Tue Jul 01, 2008 6:39 pm

... there was this interesting song on the radio, all of a sudden. Somewhat minimalistic percussion, but very sharp, to the point, and with an enjoyable groove that made me feel lighter immediately; guitar sounds from the more experimental end of the guitar continuum, however very supportive for this certain mood. There's one piece by D'Angelo which had a similar effect on me. And then these almost spoken lyrics, dark, very intense... What in the world has happened to BROADCAST RADIO?? This is not the usual stuff, I thought. Hope they don't ruin it with a cheesy refrain, I thought, as it so often happens when a producer comes up with a nice 'sound sculpting' idea for the verse, but sacrifices it for a mediocre refrain just to make dead sure everyone gets it. »... to be, pay to be one of the beautiful ...« No, I wasn't disappointed. Perfect. What is this, I heard myself say, in growing excitement, while the Pink-Floydish break was playing ... »He watches from the corner...« I decided that I simply love this music. And I decided to look up the track on the radio station's internet pages.
Which I did several days later (impossible to forget the day, even the hour I had listened to this music for the first time), Google, YouTube, you name it. That's how I got here. To find an enthusiastic crowd - incredible. And an artist who does the most exciting music just with a guitar, his voice and two stomp boxes on the floor. To listen to this music is like a gift you didn't expect nor look for.

Did I get that right - the album is not even out in Germany?? Give Yoav's talent and the power of the internet, I have the impression that it could be a matter of *minutes* until many more people will listen to his music, smiling.

Hey man, what a wonderful reaction to have to brand new music, and what a great surprise to be handed music that you love straight away.

His album should be out in Germany, ask your local record store to order it in for you if it's not on their shelves. Or failing that, look him up on iTunes.
Good luck on your Yoav hunt!

I first heard him on a mono broadcast talk show station and it gripped me the same way. Hard to ignore novel talent.
Congrats on the discovery of this artist and these tunes.
Revel.

BTW Christoph, the name of that song that you heard on the radio is "Club Thing," if you didn't know the name.
Cheers!
Very Happy

[center][i]I had the same sensation as the smooth harmonies and that voice which brings you to the top of the sky, as a flying bird which goes along the mountains, rivers, larms of sounds from a gentle wind and all along the world.

I can so relate! I saw Yoav at a Tori Amos concert in Syracuse NY. I usually do not pay much attention to the opening act and started to leave the ballroom to go buy a t-shirt. I was not the only one that stopped in the middle of the aisle as soon as he started playing and gravitated right back to my chair while being mesmerized. My husband who was reluctantly attending the concert with me did the same & was horrified to find out that we could not immediately buy his CD at the concert. Each week I searched diligently until the CD was finally released & our cravings for Yoav could be satisfied! It's an every day listening experience now!

endeneu,

I think it's the fact that it's very rare to find an artist these days that is actually talented in several areas. You have singers, songwriters, guitarists, etc ... but you seldom have all in one! I'm jealous you were able to see him more than once & hear new songs!! tongue Although now I think my dream would be to have him and Tori doing a song together. Two talents like that... who could resist!

Luckily he's back home and writing & I'm sure we'll all be waiting very impatiently.
